This summer, our client Heliotech has completed a new project project in Belgium, on the roof of a hangar close to Liège Airport. The installation reaches 2.2 MWp of capacity, spread across roughly 3,860 panels rated at 570 W each. Every panel carries an anti-glare coating, built to prevent reflections that could distract pilots during takeoff and landing.
Challenge
Few solar projects face the challenge of sitting next to an active runway. Standard photovoltaic panels reflect sunlight at angles that shift throughout the day and across seasons. On most sites, that reflection causes no problem. Near a runway, it can create a real risk to flight safety.
Belgian airport regulations treat this risk seriously. Before the project moved forward, the team assessed potential glare effects on flight paths. That assessment led to concrete mitigations, including the systematic use of anti-glare panels. Skeyes, Belgium’s air navigation service provider, and the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) both approved the project.

Our Solution
Anti-glare panels carry a real cost. The coating that suppresses reflection also blocks some of the light that would otherwise reach the cells, which lowers energy output compared to a standard panel. On this hangar, Heliotech optimized the panels to minimize that performance loss while still meeting Skeyes and BCAA’s reflection requirements. The 570 W rating per panel is the result of that balance, not a case of compliance achieved for free.
The 2.2 MWp system is expected to generate close to 2.2 GWh of electricity a year. That output covers roughly 600 households’ annual electricity consumption, produced on a roof that would otherwise sit unused.
This project shows what sets Eco Green Energy apart in the commercial and industrial solar market. EGE’s added value goes beyond installing panels. It lies in the ability to identify the specific constraints of each site, whether regulatory, technical, or environmental, and to build a solution around them.
A hangar next to a runway, an unusual industrial roof, a listed site, a tricky grid connection: every project brings its own set of concrete problems. These are exactly the situations where EGE delivers the most value to clients, by applying know-how that adapts to any configuration instead of forcing a standard solution onto it.
This project in Liège is another example. A strict regulatory constraint didn’t slow the project down. It became the starting point for a technical solution built to last.
